RAEFORD, NC – Tim D’Annunzio, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th district, today challenged Larry Kissell to return over $8,000 in contributions from disgraced Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel. Rangel was recently reprimanded by the House Ethics Committee for taking Caribbean trips that were improperly paid for with corporate and special interest funds.

“Since 2006, Larry Kissell has accepted $8,000 in contributions from Charlie Rangel. By aligning himself with Rangel and Nancy Pelosi, Larry Kissell has shown us his true liberal colors,” Tim D’Annunzio said.

“Other Members of Congress that accepted contributions from Charlie Rangel are quickly distancing themselves from him, and returning the money or donating it to charity. Why isn’t Larry Kissell following their lead?

“I suspect that Kissell is closer to Pelosi and her liberal establishment than he’d like voters in the 8th district to believe. While he refuses to take a stand on any issue, I’m not going to apologize for making my positions known to the public and being the leader that North Carolina deserves in Congress. I will continue the fight to represent the will of the voters in the 8th district and unseat Larry Kissell this November.”

Additional ethics investigations of Rangel’s finances and fundraising are still under way, with decisions by the House Ethics Committee pending.
