RAEFORD, NC – Tim D’Annunzio, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th district, today questioned Obama Administration officials who have put American financial resources at the disposal of European countries who are bailing out debt-ridden Greece.

The United States is a participant in the International Monetary Fund, which has agreed to work with the European Union to help countries that come under debt duress.

“Bailouts didn’t work in this country, and they aren’t going to work in the European Union,” Tim D’Annunzio said. “The only result of a bailout is to delay consequences for some future time. They increase the severity of the eventual consequences, and at the same time are substitutions for real reform and real solutions.”

The IMF has pledged a one-third share of the 750 billion-euro ($952 billion) rescue package—typical of the fund’s arrangements with central banks in such cases. The United States would be responsible for 17 percent, or $54 billion – the most of any country contributing to the IMF.

“These types of policies here and in the EU border on gross negligence and should be repudiated every time they are proposed. And that doesn’t even mention the obvious – we don’t have the money and we can’t afford any further debt.”

# # #

A U.S. Army veteran, Tim D’Annunzio was an infantryman, parachute rigger, and member of the prestigious Golden Knights parachute team. He has lived in the 8th district for 30 years. As a businessman and owner of Paraclete XP SkyVenture, the world’s largest indoor skydiving facility and wind tunnel, he has created jobs in Hoke County and stimulated the local economy. Tim is a conservative Republican supporting smaller government, lower taxes, and a stronger military.

Text 5MIL to 54608 to sign up for mobile updates and tell Tim how North Carolina SHOULD be spending taxpayer dollars

Harold Johnson, second place runner-up in North Carolina’s 8th district Republican primary, has challenged winner Tim D’Annunzio to a runoff election. Tim received nearly 37% of the vote, and beat Mr. Johnson by nearly 1,000 votes.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the last statewide runoff in 2008 resulted in a voter turnout of less than 2 percent.

Turnout in Mecklenburg County was so low – half of 1 percent – that each vote cost taxpayers $121.

At a time when North Carolina is facing budget shortfalls and families are forced to make tough choices, Harold Johnson has no problem spending taxpayers’ money. If he makes decisions like this now, what will he do with your money when elected?

“It seems to me it’s pretty hard to justify runoffs given the very low voter participation,” says Michael Crowell, a professor at the UNC School of Government. “It seldom changes the outcome, and the winner of the runoff usually has fewer votes than most of the people who ran in the first primary.” (charlotte observer, 5/9/2010)

The political machine in Raleigh is willing to do whatever it takes to get their candidate elected – even if it affects your personal pocketbook.

So you decide – is Harold Johnson’s challenge worth $5 MILLION to you, the North Carolina taxpayer, when 8th district voters favored Tim D’Annunzio by a clear and convincing 1,000 votes?

Text 5MIL to 54608 to sign up for mobile updates and give your ideas on how North Carolina should be better allocating taxpayer dollars.

RAEFORD – Tim D’Annunzio, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th district, today received the highest number of votes in the 8th district Republican primary, and faces Harold Johnson in a runoff on June 22. Tim received 37% of the vote, and released the following statement:

“I first of all would like to thank the voters of the 8th district who cast their ballots today in favor of a return to a limited constitutional government. Without your support over these past 9 months, I would not be within striking distance of Larry Kissell.

“While I did win a majority of the vote, the fact that I did not reach the 40% threshold leads us to a runoff election on June 22. I will take the runoff election as an opportunity to continue to show the voters of the 8th district that I am the only conservative candidate in this race.

“Across the country, true Republicans face attacks from their less-than-conservative opponents, and I will continue to be a champion of conservative, constitutional values. I challenge Harold Johnson to a series of debates over the next six weeks so our differences can be clear for the voters.

“My message throughout this campaign has been consistent. The level of spending by our government is unsustainable, and puts us on a path to bankruptcy. We must bring government spending back under control by reducing its size and doing away with programs and departments that are unconstitutional.

“On June 22, I hope to gain the support of those voters who may have cast their ballot for a different candidate on the Republican ticket. Together, we can bring Larry Kissell home, and give North Carolinians a voice in Washington who truly represents their best interests and values.”

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

With election day upon us, I want to express my appreciation for the support you have all given to me over the past 9 months. Your turnout at town halls, meet & greets, forums, and fundraisers has shown me that my message of constitutional conservatism is what the voters of the 8th District want in Washington.

Throughout my campaign, I’ve offered real solutions to reduce the size of government and the wasteful spending that is putting us on the path of bankruptcy. I’ve created jobs right here in North Carolina, and as your representative, I pledge to offer solutions that make North Carolina even more business friendly.

Tomorrow is your chance to make a difference, and vote your values. As a Christian, I share your beliefs and morals – and won’t let Washington change that. I’ll always remain the honest, hard-working representative you elected me to be.

Please, I urge you to vote tomorrow, May 4, and remind your friends and family. Polls are open from 6:30am until 7:30pm. After the polls close, I hope you’ll join me at Paraclete XP on 190 Paraclete Drive in Raeford, so I can personally thank you for all of your hard work.

Thank you again. God bless you, and God Bless America!

Sincerely,

Tim D’Annunzio

RAEFORD, NC – Tim D’Annunzio, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th district, today announced that the Federal PAC Change the Congress in 2010 has endorsed his campaign.

Change the Congress in 2010 is a federally registered political action committee that is not affiliated with any political party. The organization is looking for candidates who will change the attitude of Washington, and focus on the voters instead of the special interests and lobbyists.

“Here’s what Change the Congress in 2010 wants for North Carolina 8th District voters: An honest representative. A trustworthy person. A person with real experience in life. A person who lives and works and volunteers in his community – his community in North Carolina. A person who cares about people. A person who has paid taxes. A person who has balanced a budget. A person who has created jobs – real jobs. A person who will put his God and his country above himself. A person who will not sell out to the lobbyists. Tim D’Annunzio is that person,” said Executive Director Catherine Welborn.

Tim D’Annunzio leads his Republican primary challengers by double-digits and is the likely nominee to face Democrat Larry Kissell in November.

RAEFORD, NC – Tim D’Annunzio, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th district of North Carolina, issued the following statement this evening following the passage of health care legislation that breaches our Constitution.

“John Adams said, “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” Today with the passing of the Government’s takeover of the national health care system we have seen the death of the principles that were the foundation of the ratification of our Constitution, the death of liberty and with these the end of national wellbeing and happiness. The result will be the removal of the consent of the governed and the consummation of the desolation of our nation.

“It has been a long path of symptoms, always ignored or explained away, but always known as the harbingers of something eventually fatal. Our forefathers understood and warned us away because they had seen the cause and effects. Their understanding gave us a life, but now as with so many nations before us we have forgotten the advice of history and given in to the Siren’s call. Today our Nation died.

“In Federalist #1, Hamilton warned that history had shown that liberties of Republics had been more often overturned by demagogues. He warned that demagogues, not a well adhered to Constitution, would be more likely to overturn liberty and that once the demagogue got a foothold there would be a long train of abuses with a final result of the demagogue ending as a tyrant. Today we see this proved true; the demagogue is become the tyrant, and today Freedom and Liberty died.

“In Federalist #45, James Madison wrote, “We have heard of the impious doctrine in the Old World, that the people were made for kings, not kings for the people. Is the same doctrine to be revived in the New, in another shape that the solid happiness of the people is to be sacrificed to the views of political institutions of a different form? It is too early for politicians to presume on our forgetting that the public good, the real welfare of the great body of the people, is the supreme object to be pursued; and that no form of government whatever has any other value than as it may be fitted for the attainment of this object. Were the plan of the convention adverse to the public happiness, my voice would be, Reject the plan. Were the Union itself inconsistent with the public happiness, it would be, Abolish the Union.”

“Madison’s statement and his assessment cries out today. Abolish the Union if it is tyranny taken a new form. Is it? The warnings were that the Demagogue would use liberty to transform away from the well defined guarantees of our Constitution meant to secure our God given rights and in doing so, remove true liberty and happiness.

“The choice is, therefore, abolish or restore.

“When I began this campaign eight months ago I understood the need to return to the principles our country was founded upon. I do not believe we need a new government, but the reality is we must return our federal government to its Constitutional limitations. Again, with today’s health care takeover and its mandates, we see the end of Freedom and Liberty.

“I am calling for a national resurrection. The resurrection comes with putting off the corruption and returning to our foundations. We must return to the foundation and put off all else. With all due respect to John Adams, Freedom and Liberty can rise from this death, as long as we act before this perverted government solidifies its hold on our health care system. Repeal and Never Surrender!”

RAEFORD, NC – Tim D’Annunzio, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th district, today received the endorsement and financial support of Team America PAC, co-chaired by former Congressman Tom Tancredo and conservative activist and commentator Bay Buchanan.

According to Team America Chairman Bay Buchanan, “Tim D’Annunzio will provide a much needed vote against amnesty and for enforcing our immigration laws.

“Larry Kissell is weak regarding immigration. He has failed to act when it comes to reducing, not to mention stopping, illegal immigration.”

Buchanan notes that the immigration control watchdog Numbers USA gives Kissell a C- grade for his lack of challenging the status quo when it comes to illegal immigration.

“By sending Tim D’Annunzio to Congress we will replace a flimsy Congressman in the House with a leader that we can depend on to fight amnesty,” Buchanan said.

Team America is a Political Action Committee founded by former chair of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus Tom Tancredo that is dedicated to opposing amnesty and controlling our borders.

In addition to serving as Chairman of Team America, long time conservative activist Bay Buchanan is a commentator for CNN and president of the conservative educational foundation The American Cause. She previously served as Chairman to her brother Pat Buchanan and Tom Tancredo’s presidential campaigns and a senior advisor to Mitt Romney. Buchanan was treasurer to Ronald Reagan’s 1976 and 1980 presidential campaigns and served as US Treasurer during his first term.
